When is the Best Time to Go?

For Snow Lovers (December - February)

This is the best time. The trek is a white paradise. The days are sunny, but nights are very cold (can go down to -10°C).

For Spring Views (March - April)

The snow starts to melt, but you'll still find plenty at higher altitudes. The weather is a bit warmer, and you might see flowers blooming.

What to Avoid

Avoid the monsoon (July to September). The trail becomes very slippery and dangerous.

A Simple 6-Day Itinerary

This is what your 6-day adventure will look like:

Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Sankri

This is a long (8-10 hour) but beautiful drive. You'll travel through Mussoorie and along the Yamuna river. Sankri is a small, lovely village and our base camp.

Day 2: Trek from Sankri to Juda ka Talab (4 km)

Our trek begins! We walk through a beautiful forest of pine and oak trees. After a few hours, we reach the famous Juda ka Talab lake. This is where we camp for the night.

Day 3: Trek from Juda ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp (4 km)

Today’s walk is shorter. We leave the forest behind and enter the open meadows. The views of the high peaks start to open up. We set up camp at the base of the Kedarkantha peak.

Day 4: Summit Day! (Base Camp to Summit and back to Hargaon)

This is the big day! We wake up very early (around 2 AM) and start our climb in the dark with headlamps. The climb is steep but worth it. We reach the summit just in time to see the sunrise paint the entire Himalayas golden. After celebrating, we trek back down to a campsite called Hargaon.

Day 5: Trek from Hargaon to Sankri (6 km)

Our last day of walking. It’s all downhill from here. We trek back down to Sankri, feeling proud and tired. We celebrate our successful summit in the evening!

Day 6: Drive from Sankri back to Dehradun

Time to say goodbye to the mountains. We drive back to Dehradun, carrying memories that will last a lifetime.

How Difficult is the Kedarkantha Trek?
